About
The Center is a collaborative endeavor of the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, the University at Albany School of Public Health, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – School of Public Health and state, city, county and local health departments throughout New York and New Jersey.
The mission of the Center is to enhance the ability of the current and future public health workforce to effectively deliver the Essential Public Health Services to communities throughout New York and New Jersey. The goals of the Center are the following:
Concerning the current public health workforce:
- Assess the needs of the public health workforce in New York and New Jersey
- Facilitate access to existing training programs to address such needs
- Develop new training programs to meet such needs as necessary
Concerning the future public health workforce:
- Improve access to a diverse and culturally competent public health workforce
- Increase the number of MPH graduates from the three schools of public health working in local, state and federal health agencies
